HEATHENS BACK IN PLAY-OFF FRAME

Sunday September 11, 2016
CRADLEY picked up a second crucial win in less than 24 hours after beating Buxton 50-39 at Hi-Edge.

High on confidence following their 49-41 at Stoke on Saturday, the Motor Market Heathens produced another solid team effort to wrap up four more league points.

After suffering three consecutive defeats, skipper Max Clegg says it's been an important few days for the side after getting their play-off bid back on track.

Said Clegg: "I know the boys were hurting from the big loss at Kent on Monday, but they all did well to learn from that and get the big win at home to Stoke on Tuesday.

"We saw the away meetings at Stoke and Buxton this weekend as a big chance to get some more points on the board and to get all eight is a big boost for the team.

"It's put us back in a strong position and we need to make sure we follow it up with another home win against Kent a week on Monday."

Clegg was in inspirational form for the Heathens once again as he struck another maximum against the Hitmen, meaning he has been beaten by an opposition rider just twice in his last five National League fixtures.

Fellow heat-leader Ashley Morris struck a fine paid maximum himself while reserve Bradley Andrews put in another important display at reserve as he continues to find his confidence once more.

Richard Andrews looked a lot more solid while Luke Chessell picked up three second places before crashing in his final ride.

Ben Basford and No. 8 Joe Lawlor both battled hard and arguably deserved more points for their efforts.

The Heathens host Kent at Monmore Green on Monday, September 19 as they aim to add another three points to their tally in their final regular home fixture of the campaign.

BUXTON 39: Lee Dicken 10, Tom Woolley 8+1, Ryan Blacklock 7, Lee Geary 6, Kean Dicken 4+2, David Wallinger 2+1, Shelby Rutherford 2.

CRADLEY 50: Max Clegg 15, Ashley Morris 13+2, Bradley Andrews 8+1, Richard Andrews 6+1, Luke Chessell 6, Joe Lawlor (no.8) 1+1, Ben Basford 1, James Purchase r/r.
