Tuesday August 17, 2010
DUDLEY Heathens have gone top of the National Speedway League table in their debut season after a storming 67-26 win over Rye House at Wolverhampton.

Heathens, backed again by another bumper following, were dominant from start to finish with skipper Lee Smart unbeaten by an opposing rider on 13+2.

Barrie Evans was impressive with 10+1 on his home debut for the former Cradley club, dropping just a point in his four rides.

Australian ace Micky Dyer had his best night in Heathens colours so far with 12+1 and he earnt a call-up into the last race as a reward for his efforts.

Boss Will Pottinger said: "We were awesome right from the first race and it's a lovely feeling to be top of the league. We're looking good for the play-offs now but we have to keep our feet on the ground.

"I know the entertainment isn't as good when one team wins a meeting like that but our fans loved seeing the boys dominate. Hopefully we can keep on improving now we're into the latter stages of the league season."

Heathens are next in action next Wednesday, August 25, when they face Weymouth Wildcats at Birmingham's Perry Barr Stadium in more National League action.

DUDLEY: Lee Smart 13+2, Micky Dyer 12+1, Barrie Evans 10+1, Tom Perry 9, Jake Anderson 8+3, Ashley Morris 8+1, Richard Franklin 7+3.
