HEATHENS 53 KENT 37

Monday September 19, 2016
CRADLEY pulled off an impressive late show against Kent to secure a 53-37 home win as they sealed their place in the end of season play-offs.

The Motor Market Heathens were restricted to just two heat advantages in the first 11 races before a sensational post interval display saw them hit a 4-2 and a trio of 5-1's.

It was another performance full of determination and character and team manager Will Pottinger was delighted to see his side pull off their fourth straight victory.

Said Pottinger: "We always expected a tight meeting and that's exactly what we got right until the latter stages.

"We were keen to get another win on the board and it certainly keeps our momentum going.

"There were plenty of positives to take from the meeting and there were encouraging signs from all of our riders.

"It means we head into the play-offs with some good form behind us, but before that we've got to focus on our Knockout Cup fixture against Eastbourne which is another big meeting for us."

The Heathens were once again inspired by powerhouse duo Max Clegg and Ashley Morris who dropped just two points between them to an opposition rider.

Club asset Tom Perry enjoyed a solid guest performance, in place of the injured Luke Chessell, as he picked up two stylish heat wins on his way to double figures.

Ben Basford took the chequered flag in two, important 5-1's while Bradley and Richard Andrews both did their jobs for the team at No. 7 and No. 2 respectively.

Youngster Joe Lawlor again picked up experience from three rides in the No.8 position, and rounded off his night with a good ride to hold off Kent reserve Danno Verge.

The Heathens are next in action when they host Eastbourne in the first leg of their Knockout Cup semi-final tie at Monmore Green on Tuesday, September 27.

Meanwhile, local rivals Birmingham have selected the Heathens as their opponents for the play-off semi-finals.
