CRADLEY will hand teenage talent Harry McGurk his first taste of senior racing in the 2019 National League campaign.

The Heathens have fought off a number of clubs to secure the signature of the 14-year-old prospect, who will be eligible to race in the third tier once he turns 15 in March.

He joins fellow Yorkshireman Max Clegg as the second member of the Cradley side returning to regular league action after a year away.

After a highly successful career in youth racing, McGurk feels he is ready to step up and believes the Heathens fans make it the perfect place to start his career.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” McGurk said. “I’ve obviously been aware of Cradley for some time, and I’ve been at Monmore Green before for Cradley meetings.

“Whenever I’ve been there I’ve been really impressed with the fans, and so I’m excited to be part of the team and have that support.

“It seems like the sort of place that I’ll get a lot of help and support, so that’s a big thing in my first season in the National League.

“I’ve been really successful at youth level and I suppose I’ve got quite used to winning things, so I’d like to have that same feeling with Cradley.

“I know it’s going to be a big step up personally, but I feel like I’m ready for the challenge. I’ve got my own personal expectations, but mostly I just want to help the team and ride well for Cradley.”

Co-promoter Gary Patchett added: "We're delighted to have signed Harry for next season.

"I first came across him a few years ago when we toyed with the idea of running a team in the Midland Development League. We've waited patiently for him to get to an age where he can ride competitively, and we're pleased he'll be part of our team.

"He's only 15 in March so we mustn't heap a load of pressure onto him, but in a league where the teams are only put together to a 36-point limit there is an incentive to introduce as many new lads as we can.

"He'll probably sit alongside another rider on a similar average at reserve, and we're pleased with how our team is looking so far."
