CAPTAIN Max Clegg recorded another unbeaten night for Cradley as they edged a 47-43 win over Plymouth.

The Yorkshireman was in inspirational form on his home circuit once again as he helped the Anchor Logistics Heathens secure three more invaluable league points.

It was a result which saw them move back into the National League’s top four and kept them well and truly in the play-off picture.

But Clegg was quick to praise his team-mates for the part they played in the result - particularly Luke Harris and youngster Harry McGurk who enjoyed their best league performances of the season.

“It’s always nice to get a maximum and it’s even nicer when it’s in a win for the team,” Clegg said.

“But to say we were without Tom (Spencer) I thought it was a fantastic team performance.

“All the boys dug deep and battled hard for every point - and every point was important in the end.

“Even James (Chattin) got a point from his one ride at No.8 and while a couple of the other boys had tougher nights, some of the others stepped up to the plate.

“Luke was awesome; he was fast out the gate and put the bike in the right places and it was great to see Harry have such a good meeting.

“To see how he was struggling a few months ago to seeing him have a night like this is awesome and it shows how far he’s come.

“Everyone chipped in with something like I say though and we’re happy because we needed that win.

“I thought it was a cracking meeting for the fans with how close it was throughout and there was some good racing as well.”

Cradley’s main threats came from former Heathen Richard Andrews and Nathan Stoneman - who only dropped two points from seven rides, one of which as Clegg sealed his maximum in the final race with a stunning last lap switch of racing line.

Cradley head to Belle Vue Colts a week on Thursday (August 29, 7.30).
