HEATHENS 65 WEYMOUTH 27

DUDLEY Heathens are in line to finish top of the National League table after romping to an emphatic win over Weymouth at Perry Barr.

Heathens moved ahead of Newport on race points difference with their 65-27 victory, and can now only be headed by Buxton if the Hitmen rack up a huge win of their own in their final match at King's Lynn.

They dominated from start to finish against the Wildcats, providing all 15 race winners - and the closest the visitors came was in the very last race when James Cockle led for three and a half laps only for Dudley skipper Lee Smart to surge through into the last bend.

It was a points-feast for the whole Heathens team, with Tom Perry supplying some thrilling action from the back, including a last-to-first effort in Heat 3 and another fine battle with Tom Brown to win Heat 12.

Boss Will Pottinger said: "I told the boys beforehand how important it was to win this meeting by as many points as we could, and full credit to them, they never let up from start to finish. It's exactly the result we wanted and we're looking good for finishing top."

DUDLEY 65: Lee Smart 15, Tom Perry 13, Barrie Evans 10, Jake Anderson 8+2, Micky Dyer 7+3, Richard Franklin 7, Ashley Morris 5+1.

WEYMOUTH 27: James Cockle 8, Tom Brown 8, Adam McKinna 5, Brendan Johnson 3+1, Karl Mason 3, Richard Andrews 0, Gary Cottham 0.
