PASSIONATE Cradley Speedway fans are refusing to give up on the search to find a new home to relaunch the famous old club.

Heathens are currently out of action after closing down at the end of the 2019 season – and they lost their Dudley Wood home back in 1995.

Now the Heathens Trust, made up of loyal fans of the club, have issued an update for supporters across the world.

A spokesperson said: “Of course, each site we look at presents us with its own difficulties such as size, affordability, likelihood of obtaining planning and proximity to our traditional fan base.

“We can assure supporters that the Trust will leave no stone unturned in order to secure a new site for Cradley speedway, although, as others have found in the past, this isn’t easy.

“If anyone would like to assist us, Trust membership is available at a cost of £5 per year. “Please email us at HeathenTrust@gmail.com. Similarly, if anyone has any suggestions that may help us, ranging from potential sites to events that we can put on, again please let us know.”

The Trust is holding a Skittles Evening on 23 October 2021 at the Elton Centre in Stourbridge, DY8 1HA. The cost is £5 per person, to include a pork sandwich. The event is intended as a social evening for supporters with the hope of raising a little money for the Trust, so please come along if you can. Cradley Heathens were once regarded as the most successful speedway team in the world during a glittering spell in the 80s when fans flocked to the old stadium.

However, the site was sold by the landowners and demolished with Barratt Homes building over 120 houses.

The search for a new site, started by late promoter Colin Pratt in 1994, has so far been unsuccessful after plans by former club bosses to locate to Canal Street in Brierley Hill were dashed.
