BUXTON 44 HEATHENS 47

Sunday June 05, 2011
DUDLEY Heathens continued their stunning run of form with a 47-44 win at Buxton at go level on points with the National League leaders on Sunday.

It was the former Cradley club’s sixth straight wins in all competitions and they achieved it despite the absence of in-form heat-leader Kyle Newman who was unavailable because of his Premier League duties with Newcastle.

Heathens were looking comfortable and on target for the maximum four points available when they went into the last three heats 10-points up.

But Buxton used Adam Allott for double points in Heat 13 and the Hitmen gained a 5-3 advantage.

And when Tom Perry fell in the penultimate race to hand the home side a 5-1 the result was still in doubt.

Ashley Morris was then controversially excluded from Heat 15 for delaying the start and Buxton needed a 5-1 to snatch the draw.

But when their guest rider Jason Garritty was excluded for causing the stoppage of the rerun Heathens were home and dry.

Jubilant Heathens boss Will Pottinger said: “We’re very pleased with this result, we have had an excellent week.

“Jon Armstrong was brilliant but this was about a solid all-round team performance and it certainly gives us encouragement for the rest of the season.

“It’s just a shame we don’t have another meeting now before June 21 when we face the Isle of Wight at Wolverhampton.”

BUXTON: Adam Allott 18, Luke Priest 9+1, Jason Garrity 8+1, Dean Felton 4+1, Paul Burnett 3+1, Ryan Blacklock 2, Robert Branford R/R.

HEATHENS: Jon Armstrong 15+1, Ashley Morris 10, Richard Franklin 7+1, Tom Perry 6+2, Darryl Ritchings 5, Danny Stoneman 4+1, Kyle Newman R/R.
