HEATHENS 57 KING'S LYNN 39

Tuesday September 06, 2011
HEATHENS rounded off their National League programme for 2011 with a resounding home win – with several of their riders recording big scores.

The 57-39 victory over King’s Lynn moves Heathens above the Young Stars in the National League table after a blustery night at Monmore with both teams deserving credit for continuing after a heavy mid-meeting downpour.

Adam Allott proved to be the perfect choice of guest for the Heathens, the Buxton regular storming to four straight wins, and the Heathens’ engine-room was also in good working order with reserve Darryl Ritchings picking up the man-of-the-match award.

King’s Lynn’s top duo of skipper James Cockle and guest Lewis Blackbird both won tactical rides to leave them in with a chance of snatching a point in the closing stages, but back-to-back Dudley 5-1s in Heats 13 and 14 made it safe for the home side before Cockle edged out Ashley Morris in a cracking battle in the last race.

Heathens boss Will Pottinger said: “It’s a good way to finish our league programme after a tough run recently, and now we’re looking forward to the challenge matches to complete the season.

“Adam was a brilliant guest, but all of the boys rode well and I’d also like to thank the track staff for their efforts in making sure we got the meeting on.”
