RYE HOUSE 38 HEATHENS 53

Saturday June 16, 2012
DUDLEY Heathens continued their superb start to the National League season with an emphatic away win at Rye House.

Heathens gave a rock-solid performance from one to seven, dominating both in terms of race wins and in avoiding last places at Hoddesdon.

Skipper Adam Roynon dropped his only point to Jason Garrity in Heat 1, and there was a fine display too from Byron Bekker with paid-11, whilst Heathens’ reserve strength was underlined by Dan Greenwood’s paid-ten score.

Greenwood and Darryl Ritchings put the visitors ahead with a 5-1 in Heat 2, and although the home side pulled back an early four-point deficit with a 5-1 in Heat 6 Heathens quickly responded in the next race through Bekker and Tom Perry.

That was the first of back-to-back maximums, and a 4-2 in Heat 10 put them ten points clear – but Roynon prevented any serious gains from a James Sarjeant tactical ride in the next.

Sarjeant crashed out of Heat 13 with Roynon and Ashley Morris delighting the travelling fans with a 5-1 over Garrity, and Greenwood and Bekker put the seal on all four points with another maximum in the penultimate race.

Heathens boss Will Pottinger said: “It was a very pleasing all-round team performance, and nobody let us down. I don’t like singling people out in team efforts, but it was very nice to see Byron back to his best.

“The reserves did their job superbly and it means we have four wins from four meetings in the league, and three of them away from home.

“But we’re not taking anything for granted, and we’ll approach Sunday’s meeting at Buxton with the same attitude as we did tonight.”

Heathens make one change for the trip to the Hi-Edge Raceway (3pm) as Roynon is unavailable due to a re-arranged Premier League fixture for Workington. In-form Ashley Birks steps in as a guest.

RYE HOUSE 38: Jason Garrity 12, Ben Morley 12, James Sarjeant 7, Shane Hazelden 4+1, Luke Chessell 1+1, Nick Lawrence 1, Rikki Mullins 1.

DUDLEY 53: Adam Roynon 11, Byron Bekker 10+1, Dan Greenwood 9+1, Ashley Morris 8+1, Tom Perry 6+2, Darryl Ritchings 5+2, James White-Williams 4.
