HEATHENS 69 BUXTON 23

Tuesday June 26, 2012
TABLE-TOPPING Dudley Heathens again smashed their club record victory with a 69-23 demolition of Buxton at Monmore Green on Tuesday.

Heathens, who have won all six of their National League outings, made it ten straight wins in all competitions as they dropped just six points all meeting against the Hitmen.

Tom Perry, Ashley Morris and skipper Adam Roynon all put in unbeaten showings as the Heathens won all fifteen races, and failed to run a single last place.

Despite the one-sided nature of the meeting, there were still some enjoyable heats for another impressive crowd to enjoy, with Buxton No.1 Robert Branford in particular giving plenty of effort.

Branford led Perry for three and a half laps in Heat 5 before the Heathens man made it around the outside in thrilling style on the last bend – and the final race of the night saw a sensational three-way battle between Perry, Morris and Branford with the lead changing hands on several occasions before the home duo prevailed.

Byron Bekker also gained reward for his efforts in Heat 14 as his switch to the inside on the final bend paid dividends for him to move Dean Felton aside and link up with Darryl Ritchings for a 5-1 – one of nine maximum race advantages for the Heathens.

Reserve Dan Greenwood continued his impressive return to the sport with paid-ten, and Heathens bosses have revealed they have opened negotiations to make him a club asset.

Greenwood said: “We’ll be sitting down to have some talks with the management, and I’m really enjoying riding for the club and of course the supporters are great.

“I’m happy with my form after my time out of the sport, it’s a great team to ride in with everyone’s confidence high, and I want to carry on like this when I move out of reserve and into the top five.”
