HEATHENS 58 SCUNTHORPE 33

Tuesday July 17, 2012
DUDLEY Heathens powered to yet another convincing home win - this time overcoming Scunthorpe Saints by a 58-33 scoreline to return to the top of the National League table.

In front of another bumper Monmore Wood crowd, Heathens raced into an early lead, striking 5-1s in each of the opening four races.

Although the visitors did hit back with an 8-1 in Heat 5 when Byron Bekker fell, they were never able to recover from their sluggish start. Dudley punished their opponents for a string of mistakes - extending their advantage to a comprehensive 25 points by the time the meeting drew to a close.

South African Bekker top-scored with an impressive 13+1 total which included a Heat 15 appearance, whilst flying No.1 Adam Roynon romped to a 12-point maximum and broke his own National League track record in the process.

Ashley Morris came agonisingly close to a full house - being denied by a Heat 15 fall as he was battling with the Saints’ top man Steve Worrall - but it was reserve Darryl Ritchings who bagged the rider of the night award after his contribution of 10+2.

Team Coach Jan O. Pedersen was delighted with the performance, and said: “It is an absolutely fantastic win, and all the boys did really well even without Tom (Perry).

“We still had a high score, a couple of the boys were a little rusty because we haven’t been riding for so long, but all in all it was a fantastic performance.”

DUDLEY 58: Byron Bekker 13+1, Adam Roynon 12, Ashley Morris 11+1, Darryl Ritchings 10+2, Dan Greenwood 6+3, James White-Williams 6+1, Tom Perry R/R.

SCUNTHORPE 33: Steve Worrall 14+1, Oliver Greenwood 6+1, Max Clegg 4+1, Danny Phillips 3+1, Tommy Fenwick 3+1, Tom Young 3, Gary Irving R/R.
