HEATHENS 49 BUXTON 41

Tuesday April 13, 2010
FANS turned out in massive numbers to cheer Dudley Heathens to a thrilling 49-41 win over Buxton in their opening National League clash of the season.

Club officials have apologised to supporters after selling out of programmes - there will be a reprint for collectors - almost half-an-hour before the start at their adopted Monmore Green home.

The standard of racing was first class and despite the scoreline, which saw Heathens claim all three points on offer, the outcome was in the balance for the bulk of the meeting.

Buxton hardly helped their own cause when both Adam Allott and Charles Wright touched the tapes and went from 15-metre handicaps.

Dudley skipper Lee Smart was involved in some sensational action as was Richard Franklin and impressive newcomer Tom Perry.

Said Perry: "I've really enjoyed it. I was well up for it, there was a great atmosphere and I really didn't know what to expect.

"The track was great and it's so nice to get a reception from the fans like I did."

DUDLEY: Lee Smart 13+1, Tom Perry 10+3, Richard Franklin 8+1, James Sarjeant 6+2, Ashley Morris 5+1, Jon Armstrong 5, Jake Anderson 2.

BUXTON: Charles Wright 11, Adam Allott 10+1, Craig Cook 9, Nick Morris 8+1, Lewis Dallaway 2, Robert Branford 1+1, James McBain 0.
