IOW 15 HEATHENS 21, ABANDONED

Thursday August 09, 2012
DUDLEY Heathens have been kept waiting for a place in the Knockout Cup Final - after their meeting at the Isle of Wight was abandoned due to fog!

The former Cradley club were 21-15 ahead after six races - a staggering 34 up on aggregate - when the meeting was called to a halt.

And because they hadn't reached the conclusion of 12 races, the rules state a result cannot be declared and Heathens are facing the prospect of another long trip to the island.

Boss Will Pottinger said: "It was the correct decision and it's just a shame we couldn't get through to Heat 12 which is the cut-off for a result.

"Obviously we were in a great position and it would be nice not to have to make the trip again, but we have already liased with the Islanders management with a view to a new date and hope we can make an announcement soon."

Heathens are next in action on Sunday, August 19, at title rivals Mildenhall with the return at Monmore on Tuesday, August 21 in what promises to be the match of the National League season.

Isle of Wight 15: Paul Starke 5, Ben Hopwood 3+1, Kyle Hughes 3, Adam Ellis 2, Brendan Johnson 2, Kyle Hughes 1. Mark Baseby R/R

Dudley 21: Adam Roynon 6, Ashley Morris 5, Tom Perry 3+1, James White Williams 3, Darryl Ritchings 3, Byron Bekker 1+1, Dan Greenwood R/R
