SCUNTHORPE 43 HEATHENS 47

Monday May 03, 2010
DUDLEY continued their impressive start to the season with a last gasp 47-43 National League victory at Scunthorpe on Monday evening.

Jake Anderson was in superb form for the Heathens with a 15-point maximum and he teamed up with Jon Armstrong (13+1) in the final heat 5-1 that clinched this well-deserved win.

The Midland side looked to be heading for a comfortable win as they led 33-27 after heat 10, but successive Scunthorpe 5-1s in races 11 and 12 quickly turned the match on its head.

Armstrong then took the chequered flag in a shared heat 13 and an Anderson/ Tom Perry 4-2 in the penultimate heat ensured the scores were level going into the last race.

When the tapes rose in the decider Saints star Gary Irving was excluded for a first bend fall and in the re-run Anderson and Armstrong held off Gary Beaton, with the three league points gained moving the Heathens up to second place in the National League table.
