ADVANTAGE HEATHENS!

Tuesday September 24, 2013
DUDLEY will carry a healthy 28-point lead into their National League play-off semi-final second leg after they stormed to a 59-31 victory over Isle of Wight at Monmore Green.

After a shaky start, the former Cradley club launched a sensational surge over the second half of the meeting - romping to four 5-1s in the final six races to give themselves a hefty advantage ready for their trip to Smallbrook next Tuesday.

It was a classy display from the rampant Heathens as they continued their perfect home record in 2013 - and boss Will Pottinger was delighted with another outstanding performance from his side.

Said Pottinger: "It's in stark contrast to last year when we struggled in our first leg against Stoke. This time we started a bit slow and it took us a while to get going, but things soon clicked and it was a great win in the end.

"It gives us a good lead to take to the Isle of Wight next week, and hopefully we can finish the job off."

Reserve Dan Greenwood - PICTURED - led the charge in fine style as he flew to a five-ride paid maximum, whilst Ashley Morris also suffered just one defeat with a fine showing.

Lewis Blackbird battled bike problems to notch nine whilst Paul Starke bagged a useful 11 from the No.1 position.

Teenage sensation Max Clegg celebrated becoming a club asset by scoring 7+2 - and with Gareth Isherwood ending his night with two wins the hosts had a tremendous top five.

The result gives Heathens a timely confidence boost as they take a 22 point lead to King's Lynn for their KO Cup Semi-Final second leg on Wednesday night.
