HEATHENS REACH CUP FINAL!

Wednesday September 25, 2013
JUBILANT Dudley Heathens are through to their second successive Knockout Cup Final after a stunning 46-44 win at King's Lynn.

Carrying a 22 point lead from the first leg, the Heathens put in a battling display to pull off a shock victory and send out a strong message to their rivals.

It was another superb night for the men in Green, Red and White – and after suffering Grand Final heartache in the competition last year, team boss Will Pottinger is relishing the chance to seize glory this time around.

Said Pottinger: “We’re absolutely delighted with the result – it was a great team effort with everybody contributing to what was a brilliant win.

“These sorts of results can only boost our confidence ahead of the business end of the season, although we know from experience we can take nothing for granted.

“We’re looking forward to the final now, and hopefully we can manage to go one step further than last year by lifting the trophy.”

Skipper Ashley Morris top scored for the visitors with another classy display, whilst he received solid support from fellow heat leaders Paul Starke and Lewis Blackbird.

But it was at reserve that the match was won as both Dan Greenwood and Nathan Greaves (PICTURED) enjoyed superb evenings.

Whilst Greenwood continued his flying form to record three race wins – two of them paid – Greaves bounced back from a disappointing spell to enjoy a sublime night which yielded just one defeat against an opposing rider.

Fellow youngster Max Clegg also put in a solid showing in the middle order – and although Gareth Isherwood endured a tough night Dudley still took a comfortable aggregate victory to seal their spot in the final.
