COVENTRY 18 HEATHENS 18

Friday March 21, 2014
CRADLEY saw their 2014 campaign get off to a disappointing start as their Travel Plus Trophy clash with Coventry was abandoned due to rain.

A heavy downpour at 5pm left the Brandon circuit in a damp state - and the riders appeared to visibly struggle to keep control when the action got underway.

When Heathens reserve Danny Phillips hit the deck in the initial running of heat four it prompted some extensive track grading - and after two more races littered with falls both sides agreed to bring an early halt to proceedings with the scores tied at 18-18.

A disappointed Will Pottinger admitted the right decision was eventually made despite their frustrations – and he says they will now turn their attentions to Wednesday as they travel to King’s Lynn for the National Shield first leg.

The Cradley team boss said: “Of course it’s disappointing to see the first meeting rained off but the riders safety is obviously paramount.

“It’s a long season and you don’t want to see anyone hurt this early in the campaign. Hopefully we can get it re-arranged, but in the meantime we are all just looking forward to King’s Lynn on Wednesday.”
