SHEFFIELD SELECT 43 HEATHENS 47

Thursday June 30, 2016
CRADLEY picked up a hard fought 47-43 win at Sheffield - but it was at a cost.

Ben Basford faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering concussion and whiplash in a crash in heat 11.

That was the only real down point for the Heathens who enjoyed an encouraging night ahead of Sunday's Travel Plus National League trip to Rye House.

Club No. 1 Ashley Morris said: "This was always about getting some extra track time in on a track we're not used to and it was a good workout overall.

"We all showed some positive signs and the win was just a bonus.

"We took it down to a last heat and me and Max got the job done with a 5-1.

"It's a shame what happened to Ben but he'll bounce back and we'll be full of confidence heading to Rye House."

Morris dropped just one point to an opponent on another top night for the young, Brit.

Fellow heat-leaders Luke Chessell and Max Clegg also chipped in with double figures to help the Heathens on their way to victory.

Bradley Andrews enjoyed another solid showing at No.7 while fellow reserve Layne Cupitt picked up his first heat win in Cradley colours.

Ben Basford won heat eight before being withdrawn while Richard Andrews endured a night to forget despite plenty of effort.

SHEFFIELD 43: Arthur Sissis 12, Nathan Greaves 9+1, Jack Smith 9, Jack Parkinson-Blackburn 5+3, Joe Lawlor 4+1, Chris Widman 3+1, David Speight 1.
