ISLE OF WIGHT 42 HEATHENS 33

Thursday September 01, 2011
KYLE Newman returned to the Heathens side with a stunning performance - but was then struck by the club's injury jinx.

Newman notched 11-points from his opening three rides in the 42-33 defeat at the Isle of Wight before he was involved in a horrifying spill.

The former Cradley club had restored pride with a hard working display including a 7-2 tactical win from Newman and Darryl Ritchings in Heat 11.

But disaster struck in Heat 13 when Newman was chasing Nick Simmons and clipped his back wheel with both riders hitting the fence at high speed. Simmonds was badly dazed and Newman was taken to hospital complaining of back pain.

Heathens boss Will Pottinger said: "Obviously our thoughts are with Kyle because it was an awful crash and our best wishes to Nick Simmons too.

"We've been through a tough time and it just wasn't meant to be. We all feel dreadful about Kyle just as we did about Armo on Tuesday.

"It was a good display by the boys, they all got stuck in and they can feel proud of their efforts.

"We also want to say thanks to the fans who travelled down in big numbers, it's very much appreciated."

HEATHENS SCORERS: Kyle Newman 11, Darryl Ritchings 7+2, Tom Perry 7+1, Danny Stoneman 3+1, Ashley Morris 3, Jamie Courtney 2, Richard Franklin R/R.
